Canals
The following source list was originally available only on paper in one of the West Yorkshire Archive Service offices. It may have been compiled many years ago and could be out of date. It was designed to act as a signpost to records of interest on a particular historical subject, but may relate only to one West Yorkshire district, or be an incomplete list of sources available.
West Yorkshire Archive Service holds many records relating to canals in the North and the Midlands. To find these records you can do a keyword search in our online catalogue for the name of the canal that you are interested in.
There are two particular collections of note for canals: the British Waterways collection (collection reference: C299 at WYAS: Wakefield) and the deposited plans collection (collection reference: QE20 at WYAS: Wakefield).
