Zion Primitive Methodist Church, Birstall
The following source list was originally available only on paper in one of the West Yorkshire Archive Service offices. It may have been compiled many years ago and could be out of date. It was designed to act as a signpost to records of interest on a particular historical subject, but may relate only to one West Yorkshire district, or be an incomplete list of sources available.
Was established in 1821 using the upper room of a cottage in Low Lane (site of later Conservative Club). From c1860 the congregation used the chapel in High Street and a new Zion chapel was built in Low Lane in 1885.
The chapel closed in 1909 and some members then joined the Gospel Army. The building was used as a cinema 1911-1954 and later as Birstall Public Library; it was then demolished in 1981.
