Zion Methodist New Connexion Church, Birstall
The following source list was originally available only on paper in one of the West Yorkshire Archive Service offices. It may have been compiled many years ago and could be out of date. It was designed to act as a signpost to records of interest on a particular historical subject, but may relate only to one West Yorkshire district, or be an incomplete list of sources available.
This church was established by a number of members who seceded from Birstall Wesleyan Methodist Church c1801 and a chapel was built in High Street in 1836. A number of members left during the Barkerite controversy in the 1840s and the church closed in 1846.
Between 1846-1853 the building was used by the Birstall Independent Church. Between c1860 -1885 the building was used by Birstall Primitive Methodist Church and then later as a joiner's shop.
