Woodroyd Bethel Methodist New Connexion Church, Honley
The following source list was originally available only on paper in one of the West Yorkshire Archive Service offices. It may have been compiled many years ago and could be out of date. It was designed to act as a signpost to records of interest on a particular historical subject, but may relate only to one West Yorkshire district, or be an incomplete list of sources available.
A Wesleyan Methodist class was established by Thomas Haigh at his house at Gynn, c1770's. Later meetings were held at Hall Ing and at a cottage at Woodroyd Mill, which the Haighs then owned. Thomas Haigh and his son Joseph and their followers joined the New Connexion in 1797 and meetings continued to be held in members' houses for many years. A Sunday School was established by Thomas and Joseph Haigh in 1821, using a room called the Stove at Hall Ing. A chapel was built in Hall Ing Lane at Woodroyd in 1840 with the room below the chapel used as a Sunday School, the chapel was on ground provided by Joseph Haigh and closed in 1983.
