Thurstonland Wesleyan Methodist Church
Class established 1777, probably from Deanhouse Methodist Church at Netherthong.
Huddersfield Circuit records say class established 1798; this may be a refoundation after the disturbances when the New Connexion broke away from the Wesleyans.
Services held in cottages until 1810.
Chapel built jointly by Church of England, Independents, Quakers, and Wesleyan Methodists in Marsh Hall Lane (also known as School Lane) 1810.
Sunday School established 1810.
Chapel used by all denominations, but mainly by Wesleyans, to 1834.
Majority of trustees decided a Church of England clergyman should have sole use of chapel for preaching 1834; chapel then used by Church of England until St Thomas’ Church built next door to it 1869-70; old chapel then demolished .
Wesleyan Methodists returned to holding services in cottages from 1834.
New chapel built in The Village 1836-37.
Sunday School built next door to chapel at some time in period 1854-93.
Closed 1979.
