Thurstonland Endowed School

The following source list was originally available only on paper in one of the West Yorkshire Archive Service offices. It may have been compiled many years ago and could be out of date. It was designed to act as a signpost to records of interest on a particular historical subject, but may relate only to one West Yorkshire district, or be an incomplete list of sources available.

Originally a charity or endowed school, Marsh Hall Lane, it was founded in 1763 and built soon afterwards. The girls department was added in 1822 and the school rebuilt in 1874, later called Thurstonland Endowed Primary School. The school is presently known as Thurstonland Endowed First School.

The first recorded log book for this school is dated 1894. Extracts from this log book and comments on the teaching methods of the time can be found at Wakefield Archives, collection reference: WRD5.
