Thurlstone Netherfield Independent Church
The following source list was originally available only on paper in one of the West Yorkshire Archive Service offices. It may have been compiled many years ago and could be out of date. It was designed to act as a signpost to records of interest on a particular historical subject, but may relate only to one West Yorkshire district, or be an incomplete list of sources available.
Established c.1784 by a number of worshippers from Thurlstone and Penistone area who had attended Rev Henry Venn's services in Huddersfield (see above under Huddersfield Highfield); after Venn left Huddersfield in 1770 they attended first Highfield chapel and then Holmfirth chapel for some years.
Netherfield chapel built in Huddersfield Road 1786.
Sunday school built in period 1851-1858.
Congregation joined with Penistone St Paul's Methodist Church 1981 to form Penistone St Andrew's United Church.
New chapel built specially for the united church in High Street, Penistone, in 1980s, opened 1989.
Still in existence as a united Methodist and United Reformed Church 2002.
