Sheepridge, Wiggan Lane Wesleyan Methodist Church
The following source list was originally available only on paper in one of the West Yorkshire Archive Service offices. It may have been compiled many years ago and could be out of date. It was designed to act as a signpost to records of interest on a particular historical subject, but may relate only to one West Yorkshire district, or be an incomplete list of sources available.
Sheepridge Wesleyan Chapel at Wiggan Lane was first built in 1822. In 1908 - 1909 a new Sunday School was built, the old school having been underneath the church. In 1913 the church was renovated, and in 1922 a new organ was installed to commemorate the church's centenary. The church celebrated its 150th anniversary in 1972. By the late 1980's the church premises were in a poor state of repair and the congregation met for worship in one of the meeting rooms rather than in the church itself. In 1988 an appeal was launched to raise £70,000 to replace the premises with a new building. In 1992, Wiggan Lane was closed.
