Scapegoat Hill Baptist Church
The following source list was originally available only on paper in one of the West Yorkshire Archive Service offices. It may have been compiled many years ago and could be out of date. It was designed to act as a signpost to records of interest on a particular historical subject, but may relate only to one West Yorkshire district, or be an incomplete list of sources available.
The records relating to this church can be found at WYAS: Kirklees under the reference number KC1037 and WYK1165 (under the collection title Scapegoat Hill Baptist Sunday School)
Meetings for worship and a Sunday School were established in 1830 from Pole Moor using a house.
In 1849-1850 and Sunday School was built in Hight Street and subsequently enlarged in 1861-1863.
The congregation was established in 1871 with members from Pole Moor, Golcar and Salendine Nook and used the Sunday School for services.
A new Sunday School was built in School Road in 1872 and a new chapel was built next door at the corner of Chapel Street and School Road in 1898-1900.
The church is still in existence in 2009
