Pontefract Joint Isolation Hospital
Pontefract Joint Isolation Hospital (ref: C198) was constituted in 1894. The Joint District comprised of Pontefract Borough, Pontefract Rural District and Knottingley Urban District. It was a 24 bed hospital, admitting the first patients in 1901 and built at Chequerfield.
In 1945 the hospital had 36 beds when a report by the Ministry of Health recommended that it should be 'eliminated' as a fever hospital. In 1948 it became a pre-convalescent institution connected to Pontefract General Infirmary.
The hospital did not treat tuberculosis which was treated at a different dispensary (ref:C199), Smallpox was not treated at this hospital after 1902, when cases were treated at a separate hospital at Sherburn.
Records include staff salary books 1927-1943, patient admission and discharge registers 1901-1948. Access to some records may be restricted.
