KING CROSS CONSTITUTIONAL CLUB, HALIFAX, RECORDS. Boer War Roll of Honour 1899-1900, and proposition book 1913-1999. The Club began in August 1867 with a meeting called to form a Skircoat Branch Conservative Working Men's Club under the leadership of A H Edwards, son of Sir Henry Edwards. The Club had more than one home, including the Queen's Hall in Queen's Rd, but from 1920 it occupied Highfield House in Parkinson Lane, and gradually became a purely social club. True to tradition it remained a men only club with women only allowed in on Saturday evenings and for special events. Membership gradually declined and the Club closed on 24 February 2001. c1900-1999 WYC:1055
