Old Lane Wesleyan Methodist Church, Birkenshaw

In 1822 a Sunday School was built in School Hill (later called Chapel Hill) off Town Street. Between 1822-c1851 the school was used by members from the Westgate Hill Wesleyan Church for worship. Around 1851-1852, the Wesleyans lost control of the Sunday School building to the Wesleyan Reformers and subsequently had to use premises in Wellington Street for services from 1851-1864. In 1864 a Sunday School was built in Old Lane.

Westgate Hill Wesleyan Church approved the building of a chapel by their members in Birkenshaw at a meeting in 1869 and a chapel was built next door to the Sunday School in Old Lane in 1870-1871.

The chapel closed in 1971 and the congregation joined Bradford Road Methodist Church.

The chapel was later demolished and two houses built on the site.
