Oakes Baptist Church, Lindley

Oakes Baptist Church was founded from Salendine Nook Baptists in 1864. It began with 36 members who had previously worshipped at Salendine Nook. At first they met in premises at Quarmby. A newly built chapel for the congregation was opened at Oakes in 1868 at a cost of £5,500. A Sunday School building was opened in 1878. In 1989 Oakes joined with Milnesbridge Baptist Church to form the West Huddersfield Baptist Church; the united church continued to use both church buildings.
