Maps of the Bradford District

A list of Bradford District maps is held by Bradford Archives. This list comprises of primary historical maps such as township, tithe and enclosure maps. Please note these are not OS Maps. Historical OS Maps of Bradford dating back as far as 1852 can be found within the Local Studies section of Bradford Central Library. It will be noted that some tithe and enclosure maps for the Bradford District are actually held by our offices at Leeds and Wakefield. Whilst this appears to be quite an irrational state of affairs there is in fact a good reason. The enclosure maps held by Wakefield were either enrolled with the Clerk of the Peace for the West Riding who was based in Wakefield, or registered at the Registry of Deeds also based in Wakefield and now home to the WYAS office. The reason some tithe maps are held by our Leeds office is a diocesan matter. Before the formation of the Bradford diocese in 1919 the district was covered by the Wakefield and Ripon diocese. The tithe maps held at Leeds were created and deposited with the Ripon diocese and these diocesan records are held by our Leeds office.
